Application of Protective Coating With Anti-oxidation And Decarburiation on Medium & High Carbon Steel
With the innovation development of steel industry, the requirement of steel quality is more strict in recent year. The new standard stipulate that the thickness of decarburization layer must be within 0.3mm in China. It means the steel billet must have been effectively protection during heating process, because steel billet will be bound to decarburization in high temperature and it will reduce the steel surface hardness. At present in order to solve the problem, most of steel company use clean steel decarburization layer method by grinding wheel or pickling after rolling. In this way, the grinding capacity will reach 5% due to decarburization, which can reduce material yield. So how to reduce steel secarburization is a main focus in steel rolling.

The results of several experiments indicate that the protective coating layer can reduce decarburization layer thickness more than 70%, which reach 80% for bearing steel and heavy rail steel.
The protective coating is aqueous slurry with strong adhesion which consist of inorganic materials and special binding agent. And it form a dense oxygen insulating layer on steel surface to prevent oxidation and decarburization in high temperature.
The protective coating with anti-oxidation and decarburization has no chemical reaction and infiltration with base metal and no damage to metallurgical structure and properties of steel billet. It has no harmful gas during heating process and easy spalling after steel billet taken from furnace.
